The collection includes more than 1,000 pieces of Japanese graphic design from the period between 1950–2000. Designers include Kiyoshi Awazu, Shigeo Fukuda, Yusaku Kamekura, Shin Matsunaga, Hiroshi Ohchi, Koichi Sato, Ikko Tanaka, Keiichi Tanaami and Tadanori Yokoo. The collection incorporates the holdings of Richard Thornton, the former University of Connecticut Professor of Design and author of, The Graphic Spirit of Japan (New York: Van Nostrand Reinhold, 1991).
