In last week’s newsletter we shared news of the opening of Black Power to Black People: Branding the Black Panther Party, Poster House, New York. Concurrently on view at the museum is the exhibition Made in Japan: 20th-Century Poster Art (March 2–September 10, 2023), co-curated by Nozomi Naoi and Erin Schoneveld. Also largely drawn from our collection with some sixty loans, the exhibition “traces the cultural shifts and technological transformations of Japanese poster design by exploring the fluid space in which painting, woodblock prints, fashion, film, photography, mass culture, and politics were responding to and in dialogue with the commercial economies and processes of print production and graphic design.” We are grateful to Angelina Lippert, Chief Curator and Director of Content, and to Ola Baldych, Director of Design and Exhibits, for steering each exhibition to completion. The stunning installation, by KASA Collective (John Kudos and Robert de Saint Phalle ), has garnered special attention. We invite you to visit Poster House to see both exhibitions.

The installation photographs shown here are by Samuel Morgan Photography, Poster House.
