We are pleased to share the Getty Research Institute’s press release—clickable here—announcing their major acquisition of some 600 works from our collection concerning social justice in the United States. The acquisition covers four interrelated categories: early twentieth century social justice; Works Progress Administration-era posters; African American culture, activism, and protest; and LGBTQ+. Some of the most iconic works are reproduced above and below (all posters unless otherwise noted). Assembled over many years, this material is close to my heart. It constitutes a pillar of the conceptual framework that informs the collection as a whole. While it is difficult to part with these works, it is heartening to know that they will remain together at one of the world’s leading research institutions, where they will be actively consulted by students, scholars, and the public for years to come.
