David Wojnarowicz (American, 1954–1992) was a largely self-taught artist and political activist, who came to prominence in New York City in the 1980s. Through his provocative artworks executed across multiple platforms, including film, books, and drawings such as that highlighted here, Wojnarowicz frequently advocated for society’s outsiders, with whom he felt inherent connection. Wojnarowicz died of AIDS-related complications at age 37.
