Niklaus Stoecklin (1896–1982) was the only Swiss artist to be included in Gustav Hartlaub’s Neue Sachlichkeit (New Objectivity) exhibition of 1925, where he was represented by six paintings. As a designer of posters, Stoeklin carried forward the concept of the Sachplakat (Object Poster), pioneered by German artists such as Lucian Bernhard, well into the 1920s, 1930s, and even 1940s.
