Paul Colin’s Art Deco portfolio of 45 lithographs (on 23 sheets) was published during a period of great popularity for Black dancers and jazz musicians in Paris. Featured prominently is Josephine Baker (1906–1975), who introduced the French to the Charleston. Baker, and the musicians and performers of her troupe La Revue Nègre, took Paris by storm in 1925. Shortly thereafter, Colin, a poster artist and faithful friend to Baker, captured their performance in the below prints.
